China Open 2017: Alexander Zverev Manages Comfortable Win over Kyle Edmund

Alexander Zverev is now close to securing his first appearance at London’s Nitto ATP Finals on Tuesday. The second seed began his China Open 2017 run with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win over Kyle Edmund of Great Britain. Zverev managed to break in the third and ninth games in the first set. Even though Edmund was able to significantly improve his game in the second set, Zverev was able to come back and raced to a tiebreak success in the second set. He managed to win the final four points so as to get a straight set victory. When it comes to the head-to-head games, Zverev is now on a 2-0 record over Edmund.
Zverev has been able to achieve third position in the Emirates ATP Race To London after having picked up 4220 points. He is only behind top stars like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Behind the 20-year-old German is Dominic Thiem, who suffered a defeat on Tuesday. Zverev will be coming up against Fabio Fognini in the next match. Once again, Zverev has the advantage in the head-to-head records over the Italian as he had been able to get a 6-3, 6-3 victory earlier in the calendar year. This victory was on the way towards getting an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title – the first of his career.
So far, 2017 is proving to be a good year for the German as he is looking to win the sixth title of the campaign. As a result, he stands to enjoy a good run up to the Emirates ATP Race To London. A major disappointment in his career so far would be the lack of significant progress in the Grand Slams. Zverev has never been able to get beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam, but one can be sure that a major title is not far away.
